View the requirements for exporting non-pet animals. If your animal is not one of the types listed above or considered poultry, it does not qualify as a pet. Birds considered poultry include chickens, doves, ducks, geese, grouse, guinea fowl, partridges, pea fowl, pheasants, pigeons, quail, swans, and turkeys). A pet is a privately-owned companion animal not intended for research or resale and includes the following animal groups only:ĭogs, Cats, Ferrets, Rabbits, Rodents, Hedgehog/Tenrecs, Reptiles, Amphibians, and Pet Birds (non-poultry). Before you start the process, you will need to know the following: the type of animal traveling, the destination country, the date of departure from the United States, and whether or not the pet will be traveling alone, as cargo, or with a person in the cabin of the plane.ĭetermine whether your animal qualifies as a pet. You would either have to do that or take your packages to the post office, I think.Pet Travel to a foreign country can be complex and time-consuming. I'm not sure if you can buy labels for oversized lettermail here, but I suspect not since Cindy-Lou is ordering stamps online. Chit-Chat's allows me to print both so when I buy Canadian postage with tracking, I do so through Chit-Chat's. You would have the opposite situation- you can print Canada Post labels on Etsy but not US Postal Service labels. I'm able to print USPS postage from my Etsy account but can't print Canada Post labels. I'm probably not the best person to ask about buying Canadian postage here on Etsy since I started my Etsy shop in the US. I would only really insist on springing for tracking on higher-cost/OOAK items you can't replace if they get lost in the mail. Since you're not boxing your pins though, you should be fine just doing what Cindy-Lou said & shipping by oversized lettermail (Canada Post). I'm afraid I've never used calculated shipping since there is so little variation in the size of my packages. Chit-Chat's was still operating when Canada Post wasn't and it's still operating now. I LOVE Chit-Chat's & wish I'd switched sooner! That last postal strike was the final straw for me and I haven't looked back since. If you have an account with Chit-Chat's you can print postage directly from their website, for those shipments. For reference, the slot of doom is about 3/4" (19mm) thick. Just ask at your PO & see if they might have an old one they're willing to give you. I was able to get an old one from my local post office years ago. If you prefer to just use Canada Post, you may want to get a sizing template. If you want to box your pins and still ship them as oversized lettermail within Canada, you should probably switch to un-padded poly (plastic) envelopes so the packages fit through the slot. The only things worth using Canada Post for are items going overseas & un-tracked items staying in Canada (not going to the US). It's a LOT cheaper than Canada Post and you don't have to worry about that ridiculous "slot of doom"! I sell small things too but the minute you put a box inside a bubble envelope, it's too thick to fit as an "oversized lettermail" item and must ship as regular parcel (which has tracking but expensive). I use Chit-Chat's for all my tracked Canadian & US-bound orders. I don't see a location on your shop but the map below looks like Toronto (where I am).
